A mortgage of land from Jonathan Hardin to Mr. Edgar Well, of the city of Charleston, proved in open court on the oath of Michael Hagon, entered on the minutes and ordered to be recorded as follows----. I, Jonathan Hardin, planter in consideration of 82lb s2, in hand paid by Mr. Edgar Wills, the receipt is hereby acknowledge. Have granted, bargained and sold unto Edgar Wells a tract of land lying in the County of Rutherford, containing 600 acres, on both sides of two branches of Hickory Creek, waters of Little River. The land whereon Jonathan Hardin now lives, with improvement, where son Joseph Hardin lives. The obligation of the above is that Jonathan Hardin shall pay or cause to be paid unto said Edgar Wells, the sum of 41lb in 12 months from the date hereof, also 41lb in 24 months from the date hereof. In the total of 82lb with lawful interest.
